A major Taiwanese business delegation visited Czechia in the last week of September. The visit was another important step toward strengthening mutual cooperation between the two countries, as well as toward the development of the semiconductor sector in Czechia through support for research and development and investments.
“This mission is a continuation of our long-term activities with Taiwan in the area of the semi-conductor industry. We are building on the successful investment seminars held in Taipei and continuously working on strengthening our mutual relations. Thanks to the tradition of semiconductor production in our country and to these systematic steps, Czechia is finding its place on the global investment map of the semiconductor industry. This mission will bring forth new opportunities for Czech companies to become involved in global supply chains in this prospective field,” said Jan Michal, CEO of CzechInvest.
The Taiwanese delegation’s visit featured an extensive programme including an investment seminar in Prague and excursions to the Ústí region and Brno. The participants were familiarised with the possibilities of investing in Czechia, including the current parameters of investment incentives and the visa process.
“The entry of Taiwanese companies into Czechia is an important opportunity for our economy. We are pleased that, in the course of the mission, numerous instances of cooperation were established between companies and other institutions. Such cooperation will strengthen our position in the high-tech sector,” said Petr Očko, Deputy Minister for Digitalisation and Innovation at the Ministry of Industry and Trade, adding: “Together with the Taiwanese side, we will now work on establishing the Investor Services Centre, which, in cooperation with CzechInvest, well help to ensure that more high-tech investors from Taiwan will set up operations here.”
In Ústí nad Labem, the delegation was welcomed by representatives of the Ústí regional government and of the Innovation Centre of the Ústí Region. The programme also included a visit to industrial zones. “We are focusing a great deal of attention on the Ústí region, as we see strong potential for the region’s transformation with respect to sectors with higher value added. At the same time, a major advantage of this region is its geographical proximity to Dresden, where TSMC, a top Taiwanese semiconductor company, has already undertaken a major investment,” Petr Očko added.
In Brno, the members of the Taiwanese delegation were familiarised with the South Moravia region’s well-developed innovation ecosystem, as well as with the activities conducted by Brno University of Technology in the area of the semiconductor industry.
